Mold Designer

CNC Programmer / Machinist

Mold Designer

Job Description:
Detail Technologies in Grand Rapids, MI is currently searching for experienced mold designers. The Mold Designer is responsible for designing high-precision single and multi-cavity injection mold tools, while supporting technical issues and tooling enhancements in a fast moving production environment.  Our ideal candidates will have significant experience designing 3D solid-models, perform feasibility and design reviews.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design molds, components, sub-assemblies, and full assemblies based on internal and customer design standards and manufacturing requirements.
  • Support production needs through enhancing and upgrading existing production tools for optimal output and quality
  • As required, work with suppliers on problem tools to find solutions to increase uptime, reduce steel maintenance, etc.
  • Work directly with purchasing, project engineering, manufacturing and other necessary groups as a cross functional team to develop mold/tooling solutions.
  • Adhere to all corporate engineering standards including but not limited to documentation and file management.
  • Autonomously plan and schedule own daily tasks, develop solutions to problems utilizing education, experience, and judgment.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Hands-on design experience.
  • Knowledge of plastic engineering needed. Mold-making and/or CNC machinist training a plus.
  • Experience with gas assist, 2 shot, over-molds, lens tools and interior/exterior trim preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated problem solving ability.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in relating to both internal and external customers.
  • Proficient is MS Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of steel machining techniques, mold design and injection mold materials.
  • Experience in engineering design software (CimatronE, SolidWorks, NX, Visi, etc).

CNC Programmer / Machinist

Job Description:
Detail Technologies in Grand Rapids, MI is currently searching for experienced CNC Machinist for all shifts. The CNC Machinist is responsible for programming, setup, operation and basic maintenance of various high-speed mills, while supporting technical issues and tooling enhancements in a fast moving production environment.  Our ideal candidates should have, but not limited to, programming 3, 3+2 and 5 axis toolpaths using WorkNC through v24 CAM/CAD software (or comparable).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Supports a safe work place environment.
  • Works from standard and complex electronic drawings, instruction sheets, charts and/or verbal instructions.
  • Works to close tolerance on unusual operational requirements, as necessary.
  • Sets up, runs and adjusts machine controls, tools and machine equipment to achieve size, finish and tolerance (fit and function).
  • Analyzes and adjusts or corrects controls, tools and fixtures to maintain quality levels during production.
  • Keeps all related equipment in proper storage within work location.
  • Performs routine daily maintenance on equipment in assigned work center.
  • Operates manual work transporting equipment to and from machining area.
  • Keeps machines, equipment and general work area neat and orderly.
  • Applies multi-tasking skills often by operating multiple machines in a work center.
  • Skills required include and are not limited to:  2D milling, 3D contour milling, boring mill, gun drill and multi-axis machining.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • General understanding of CNC machining and programming.
  • Proficient in set-up and operation of all shop equipment
  • Ability to perform complex arithmetical calculations.
  • Knowledge of mold steel machining techniques.
  • Good understanding in use of metalworking measuring equipment.
  • Basic understanding of CAD and CAD viewing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs without assistance and over 50lbs with assistance.
  • Must be able to stand up to 10 hours per day.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as required.
